I want to start this post off by telling you about #IndieBooksLoveFest which is a project Amy at Tomes With Tea told me about, with the premise being to support independent publishers. I will be purchasing at least one book a month from an independent publisher and sharing my thoughts with you. My pick for August also happened to coincide with a blog tour!
I’m really excited to be a part of this tour for Careless Whisper by TS Hunter, the third in the Soho Noir series, published by Red Dog Press.
So I bought the first two in this series, Tainted Love and Who’s That Girl?, and was kindly gifted a digital copy of this third one for this tour. Ok, I’m just going to come out with it – I LOVE THEM.
I’ll give you a bit of blurb for Careless Whisper:
LOOSE LIPS COST LIVES.
It’s 1986, and Adam Cave, lead singer of sensational pop group Loose Lips, is struggling to stay in the closet, especially as his group is going through a messy split, and media speculation about the reasons behind it are rife.
Joe Stone is assigned to Adam as a runner for the behind-the-scenes, warts and all expose of the recording of the bands last album, and an unlikely friendship begins to form.
But when Adam’s manager, Jack Eddy, is found dead in Adam’s hotel room, in what looks like a sex game gone wrong, Joe turns to his flatmate, Russell, to help him clear the pop star’s name, and keep his secret.
Russell, meanwhile, has a secret of his own. He’s just been for a test, the results of which may change his life forever.
So this series is set in 1980s Soho, London and I can tell you, they are fabulous mystery stories. There’s a dominant LGBT+ positive theme and the plots are so unique and gripping. If you’re looking for some new crime to indulge in, you need to give these a go.
Each story is just over 100 pages long, perfect for getting out of reading slumps or chucking in your pocket for a cheeky read when you get five minutes. Or you can do what I did and binge them because they are SO GOOD.
I’d say you don’t need to start with the first one, you can definitely start anywhere with this series (but you should definitely read all of them). There will be six books altogether (with fabulous rainbow spines) with the next three coming out over the coming months, and believe me, they can’t come fast enough!
Big thanks to Red Dog Press for organising the tour and letting me be a part of it, I can say I am now a Soho Noir addict.
If you’re interested in the series, do go and ask your local independent bookshop about ordering them in, otherwise you can order directly from Red Dog Press here.
Over and out,
